Inemuri is Eric Scaggiante’s (b. 2000, Italian) quiet exploration of a Japanese social practice of rest: sleeping in public while remaining connected to the world around oneself. Photographed in Japan, the series captures commuters in moments of stillness—bodies at rest within the rhythm of movement, suspended between private interiority and the shared experience of the train.

Rather than documenting Inemuri as a cultural practice, Scaggiante uses these fleeting scenes to reflect on presence, vulnerability, and the shifting boundaries between work, rest, and imagination. His photographs evoke a subtle atmosphere where silence, routine, and surrender coexist, revealing the quiet poetry contained within everyday moments.
